Academic
Program:
The
Palm Beach Institute, Inc. has partnered with the Matlock
Preparatory to provide specialized adolescent
academic program to young clients who are attending
the Residential or Day Treatment Program. Matlock believes
in the advantages of challenging and nurturing students
who have succumbed to youth substance abuse, which we
feel prepares the foundation for lifelong learning.
Fundamental in our adolescent academic program is
the development of independent thought. Encouraging
thinking, imagination and creativity optimizes talent.

Bright
students need to have enrichment in every part
of their high school curriculum through Advanced
Placement and Honors courses and this is no different
within our adolescent academic program. The school
environment relies on a respect for the students
and staff's abilities. It is easier for students
struggling with youth substance abuse to find
their voices when they are readily accepted into
their peer
group. The identity of the student is strengthened
through this process. Families are the primary
source of love, ethical standards, manners, study,
self-discipline, and honesty. It is the school's
job to work with our families to bring out these
qualities in our students. A substantial intelligence
is as valuable as a good heart. Our adolescent
academic program seeks to develop both. True self-confidence
reflects both because the students feel good about
themselves and their intellectual development
as well as possessing confidence about their
future. |

The
Matlock Preparatory teachers have earned a minimum
four-year college degree and are fluent in their content
area. Our adolescent academic program's staff is trained
in the teaching and learning philosophy of MP, which
believes that our students possess aptitude, and our
job is to give them the skills with which to use their
abilities. Further supporting the teachers is the
concern for their time and focus, so that paperwork
is kept to a minimum thus freeing each teacher to
have more attention and involvement with individual
students. MP staff looks for rewards in the glow of
achievement on the faces of their students.
The
MP vision trains the adolescent academic program's
staff to inspire its students and reminds them that
teaching impacts not only their students but also
humanity as a whole. |
