The disease of addiction affects the family system as a whole. At the Palm Beach Institute, we offer a family weekend to help assist the family on their journey of recovery. Every month the Palm Beach Institute offers a two-day family program for the clients and their family to come together and start to process effective ways the family may support one another.
It is not just the drug addict or alcoholic that is affected by chemical dependency. The loved ones are affected as well. It may be mentally, spiritually, financially, emotionally and physically. Those left behind may often be beaten down. Although this may be the first time that some can rest easy at night knowing their loved one is finally safe, issues may start to arise for those at home.
How does one begin to heal themselves? How does one react and live with a recovering addict and alcoholic? How does one handle the damage caused in the past and begin to move forward as a family or as a couple?
Many times, parents do not know how to talk to children about a mother or father’s use of chemicals. Husbands and wives do not know how to act around the friends and neighbors, let alone each other.
We, at the Palm Beach Institute will address these issues plus any other questions that may come up. There may be anger issues, hurt feelings and unanswered questions. Now is the time to get through all this.
We have an intensive program that focuses on the family, not just the person suffering from chemical dependency. We utilize movies, role-play, letters, lectures and group discussion to create an environment conducive to healing.
We will provide the family members with the tools so they may return home and continue on their journey of healing. Many family members choose to begin a program of recovery as well by joining 12-Step support groups of their own. We help to explain about the benefits of Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, Families Anonymous, Alateen and any other 12-Step program that help to heal a family.
The family program is open to current clients of the Palm Beach Institute as well as those alumni who have gone through our program within the past year. We encourage everyone and their families to make use of this rewarding program. Minor children will be included in the family program on a case by case basis.
