Dr.
Ronald Dawe: Dr. Ronald Dawe holds a
masters degree in counseling psychology and a
doctorate in Clinical Sexology. He is a licensed Mental
Health Counselor in Florida. His clinical focus is on
treating the underlying psychological causes of
chemical dependency and other addictive behaviors.
Dr. Dawe is a trained therapist in the
application of Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing therapy on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
and complex trauma, which are increasingly shown to
have causal effects on the development of addictions.
He is a clinical member of the Association for
the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, a Certified Clinical
Sexologist and a Diplomat of The American Board of
Sexology. Dr.
Dawe’s special interest is the link between early,
complex trauma in childhood and chemical abuse and
dependence later in life. |

Dr. Pena is
a psychiatrist who is Board Certified in Addiction
Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and
Forensic Psychiatry.
Additionally he maintains participation in the
American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy
of child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American
Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. |

Bill
Walsh LMHC
has thirty years of experience working in the fields
of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and for a brief
time, in the field of Corrections as a Probation
Officer. He
began his career in Mental health and Chemical
Dependency in 1980, initially as an Emergency Screener
and from that point he has held positions
as a Crisis Support Counselor specializing in
short term crisis
counseling for both inpatient and outpatient
clients. He
was an adolescent counselor in a long term
adolescent psychiatric facility.
Bill
holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration
from Kent State University and a Masters Degree in
Counseling Psychology from Nova University.
He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and is
active in the recovery community.
He specializes in providing clinical
assessments for both Chemically Dependent and
Psychiatric patients and is passionate about
determining the most appropriate level of care for
those in need of treatment. |
Theodore
(Teddy) Moody: Residential
Services Coordinator

“Teddy”
brings a vast array of experience to the clients of
The Palm Beach Institute, Inc.
Teddy began his career of working with
Substance Abuse and Mental Health in 1985.
He has worked in a variety of progressively
responsible positions over the years. In 1998 Teddy became a Certified Reality Oriented Personal
Experiences Therapist (ROPES Course).
A
ropes course is a challenging outdoor personal development and team
building activity which usually consists of
high and/or low elements. Low
elements take place on the ground or only a
few feet above the ground. High
elements are usually constructed in trees or made of utility
poles and require a belay
for safety.
In addition to supervising the overall schedule
of activities for the clients from groups to outings,
Teddy supervises the client’s participation in the
ROPEs course. Ropes
course programs can be designed to meet a number of educational,
developmental, and recreational
goals. High ropes course and climbing programs
generally focus on personal achievements and ask
participants to confront their personal fears and anxieties.Challenges
may be physical and/or emotional.

| In certain cases, high element programs involve the
development and mastery of technical skills to manage
rope belay systems used to secure other climbers as
they move through the course. In such cases, outcomes
often include exploring the fundamentals of trust, craftsmanship,
and coaching.
Programs using low ropes course elements or group initiatives are most often designed to
explore group interaction, problem-solving,
and leadership.

Carol works as the Women’s Service Coordinator and the Aftercare/Alumni Coordinator of The Palm Beach
Institute, Inc. Additionally,
Carol works as a Primary Therapist and Group
facilitator.
In her role as Women’s Service Coordinator
Carol supervises gender specific issues related to
women. Many
of the issues that affect women are gender specific
and really can only be related to by other females,
often in recovery themselves. As a result, Carol ensures that activities are arranged to
address the unique issues confronted by women who are
beginning their recovery.
Carol is also certified in EMDR, a specialized
form of therapy that deals with Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder and Trauma.As the Aftercare/Alumni Coordinator, Carol
oversees an Alumni membership that is 6,000 strong and
that has been developed over the past thirty six
years. Each
week, PBI hosts an Alumni support group for those
members who wish to attend. |
| Additionally, the PBI Alumni Program host activities
throughout the year that provides a vehicle for former
clients to support one another and to support clients
who currently are in treatment or who may be joining
the PBI Alumni. Typically
clients complete three months of Aftercare which
consist of weekly meetings in the evening before
joining the Alumni of PBI.
Carol helps to guide the clients through the
completion of their program at PBI, the aftercare
program and their participation in the PBI Alumni. |
James
F. Bannon, Jr. Mens
Service Coordinator

Jim
Bannon has a Masters in Counseling from Northern Arizona University and has worked
in the field of addictions for more than twenty years. Jim's background offers areas of expertise and specialization
in “duo-diagnosis”, relationships and trauma
specifically within the framework of substance abuse.
Prior to joining PBI, Jim has worked as a
therapist in private practice, a Clinical Director and
as Counselor in the nationally recognized Meadows
Treatment Center.
Jim is also available to offer Christian
counseling to those clients who wish to receive these
services but it is not something that he offers unless
it is specially requested. Jim's
career in counseling stems from both formal education
and his own recovery.
Jim’s first love however is as a Primary
Therapist. He
works with both males and females and oversees
activities specifically geared toward addressing
men’s issues.
Jim
is specializes in psychodynamic therapeutic
modalities, is very committed to the Twelve Steps and
is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization
Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy which is a form of therapy
that deals with Post Traumatic Disorder and Trauma. |

Sandra Palmer: Adolescent

Sandra
(Sam) Palmer is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in
the State of Florida. She received her Masters from
the University Of Toledo in Ohio and has been in the
mental health field for 17 years. Her clinical focus
is on treating the underlying psychological causes of
chemical dependency and other addictive behaviors. She
is a trained therapist in the application of Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. Sam’s
background brings experience in Rational Emotive
Therapy, Assertiveness and communication training,
family counseling, and addiction counseling. Sam is
also trained as a mediator. |
Frank Walls, L.C.A.D.C:
Northeast
Clinical Interventionist

Many
clients of The Palm beach Institute(PBI) come from the
Northeast including New Jersey, New York and
Pennsylvania. To facilitate and coordinate care, Frank
Walls, L.C.A.D.C has worked with The Palm Beach
Institute to assist clients who come to us for
services and who will be returning home.
Frank has worked as an Employee Assistance
Counselor, Clinical Director and Program Director for
over thirty years.
His years of experience lend themselves to
assisting clients in the Northeast area with making a
determination as whether The Palm Beach Institute or
another facility is appropriate for them.
Once a client has determined that
PBI is the treatment center of their choice,
Frank assists the clients with the admission process
and coordinates care for the family in the area. Additionally, Frank also serves as a point of contact to
coordinate clients from the Northeast area who are
returning from treatment at PBI within their local
community. |
